The St. Getrud Church in Cologne is one example of the work of architect Gottfried Böhm.

Les Éclairs used the inner space of the brutalist church as resonating frame for a multichannel recording which took place on two consecutive days.
The reverbing walls and ceiling offered perfect surroundings for the sitespecific acoustic interventions.

The Titel MEANDER TAPES refers on one hand to the character of wandering sounds in the space of St. Gertrud as well as the meander appeared first as ornament to accentuate architectural structures as frieze. This is reflected in the consequent choice to publish a limited edition of the soundwork on analog tape. The tape material also reflects the era of Brutalism.
The St. Gertrud Session is the first edition of a series of sitespecific recordings in brutalist architecture by Les Éclairs.
